Years before the East Coast coffeeshop boom got underway, Dave Johnson decided to open a retail coffee store in Roanoke, based on his own ideas and on coffeeshops he'd seen in his home state of Washington. As a result, Mill Mountain Coffee and Tea was one of the first coffeeshops east of the Mississippi to roast its beans on site.

Since the opening of Mill Mountain's flagship store in 1990, we have become Virginia's premier independently owned coffee company. Our success relies solely on the principle of selling only the freshest, highest-quality coffee beans available — and the thousands of cups of coffee and bags of beans we sell each day are a testament to Mill Mountain's quality.
